What Does Web 3.0 Mean to Us?
We all know the internet is constantly evolving. As our lives involve more and more around the internet, such as looking up information on google, streaming movies on our TV and hosting a meeting on Zoom.
Blockchain technology is arguably one of the most descriptive innovations in recent history. Sooner or later computer scientists are going to utilise blockchain innovations into the ways we use the internet, it is simply inevitable. As the world wide web progresses into Web 3.0, how would the adoption of Web 3.0 look like? How is it going to affect us as businesses and individuals?
What is Web 3.0?
You probably have heard about Web 3.0, but what is it exactly? It basically means the next big evolution of the internet. It is aimed to be safer, more efficient and more intelligent.
Safer:
It is predicted that Web 3.0 will be using peer-to-peer (P2P) and blockchain technologies to decentralize the data storage system, this means to have data to be spread across a network of storage systems, also efficiently coordinated to enable efficient access and lookup. Gaining control of a server in a centralized storage system means the hackers would gain access and control to all the data on it, a decentralized data storage system like The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) developed by Protocol Labs would be able to prevent that and make the internet more secure.
More efficient:
Web 3.0 would benefit from the P2P technologies and allows even quicker downloading and uploading of data which makes browsing and managing websites a lot quicker. It will achieve this by storing the data closer to the user. It will also be a more stable and reliable internet due to its decentralized nature.
More intelligent:
There are websites that will evolve into a Semantic Web. What is it you ask? It is basically the result of us putting additional data in our websites to help our computer to better understand the data and what it means to us. It allows the computer to answer our queries much like a personal assistant would. It will be using artificial intelligence to analyze yours and all the other users’ data on the internet to predict what your queries actually mean. It allows you to find the answer that you are looking for in one search instead of multiple ones.
So…:
Web 3.0 will definitely be descriptive to the ways we live our lives and run our businesses, it will create a lot of opportunities for us but also forces our businesses to evolve along with it otherwise we would be left behind as we have seen it many times in our history during every revolution.
